Personal Pilates specializes in the pilates method of body conditioning. Theresa and her team have been fully certified in the precise movements of pilates whereas many gym instructors train in a variety of areas and have not fully certified through a rigorous and comprehensive pilates training facility. Further to this a fitness club is not usually as fully equipped as a pilates studio and as a result the instructors may not be able to cater to all of your body’s specific needs.
Personal Pilates will enhance every aspect of your life. Pilates is a form of resistance training that will tone and strengthen muscles in your entire body. It will help sharpen your skills in another discipline you may have like spin classes, sports, cardio workouts, dance, or even your every day tasks like walking and riding the subway. It will make you more aware of your body, give you more energy, and provide you with more confidence!
German-born Joseph H. Pilates created the “Art of Contrology,” which is now called the Pilates Method. As a young child, he was often quite ill and worked hard to strengthen his body from the inside out through the study of boxing, yoga, gymnastics, bodybuilding, martial arts, among others.
With the outbreak of World War I, he was placed in a work camp in England and began experimenting on hospital patients using bedsprings to apply movement and resistance to their muscles while still bedridden. Through this form of training, he found that his patients quickly recovered and became much stronger than ever before.
In 1923 Joseph along with his wife Clara opened the first Pilates Studio in New York City. The Pilates Method promises musculo-skeletal balance, proper breathing, and spinal alignment. Mr. Pilates, as his students often referred to him as, created a system of exercises that combine control of the abdominals, ease of movement and mental focus. Joseph Pilates emphasized the belief that true focus restores the body to its natural balance. While moving through over five hundred pilates exercises, students will strengthen abdominals and create stronger, longer, and leaner musculature while enhancing body awareness, flexibility, and balance.
Through both resistance training on the pilates apparatus and the mat, one will find that ‘in 10 sessions’, suggested by Joseph Pilates himself, ‘you will feel the difference, in 20 sessions you will see the difference; and in 30 sessions, you will have a whole new body.’ Book your Personal Pilates session today to make that positive difference in your own body.
